Staff report
WARREN
The YWCA of Warren, 375 N. Park Ave., is celebrating the YWCA national Week Without Violence by hosting two free seminars in October.
Week Without Violence is a nationwide annual campaign that highlights practical, sustainable alternatives to violence in our homes, schools, workplaces and communities and will be commemorated Oct. 15 to 21.
The seminar, “Bringing the Issue of Human Trafficking Into the Light,” will be hosted from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 by Theresa L. Flores, an American trafficking survivor, licensed social worker, and author of the books “The Sacred Bath” and “The Slave Across The Street.”
Flores will explore the problem of human trafficking domestically and globally. Trafficking is the fastest-growing organized crime in the world and puts youths especially at risk, according to Flores.
A free workshop for social workers, child-care providers, school personnel and others who work with children is titled “Conflict Management Skills for Creating an Effective and Safe Atmosphere for Our Children.” It will be presented from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 18. The event will offer 6.5 hours of continuing-education credits.
The workshop presenter is Jennifer Batton, who serves as director of the Global Issues Resource Center, Cleveland.
The workshop will provide a detailed overview of three basic conflict- management models generally used, including curriculum integration, mediation, and conflict management as a classroom- management tool.
Lunch will be provided, and registration is limited to the first 30 participants.
For information or to register for either seminar at the YWCA, contact Kavon Wright at 330-373-1010, ext. 11, or email associate@ ywcaofwarren.org.
