YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District is selling fingerling-sized fish to local pond and lake owners during its fall fish sale.

The SWCD is selling Fathead Minnows at 100 for $6; 8- to 12-inch white amurs at $14 each; 2- to 3-inch bass, 2- to 4-inch bluegill, and 2- to 4-inch yellow perch, $0.80 each; 4- to 5-inch channel cat, 2- to 4-inch crappies and 2- to 4-inch shell crackers, $0.85 each.

Oct. 12 is the deadline for ordering fish. Orders should be picked up on Oct. 18 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Canfield Fairgrounds Coliseum 8, in the Junior Fair barn. For out-of-state residents, restrictions apply, and they are asked to refer to notices posted on the SWCD website or to call the office.

On pick-up day, customers are asked to bring a lined container filled with their own pond water, and five to ten gallons of water per 100 fish is required. The white amur must be placed in a container with a lid or liner large enough to be tied at the top, and only two can be placed per five gallons of water. Conservation materials will be available for sale and will include pond-safety kits. To order or ask any questions, call 330-740-7995, or stop by the conservation district office at 850 Industrial Road.
