Members of Poland Relay for Life “Team Debbie,” named after breast cancer survivor, Debbie Ziccardi, raised awareness for cancer during their multi-family yard sale Sept. 7-8.

Several members of the team donated clothes, baked goods and household appliances in preparation for next year’s Relay for Life in Poland.

“One hundred percent of the proceeds goes to Relay for Life. We’re starting to raise funds for next year. We have four cancer survivors on our team. It’s hit all of our families. My father is deceased and he had cancer, so it’s important for me to help others with the disease,” said team member Holly Marshall.

Ziccardi, who survived breast cancer, is glad her participation will go to help fund cancer research in several areas in Ohio. Her experiences have made her more appreciative of life and her family.

“Chemo was rough and hard. The hard part was losing all of my hair – that was devastating, but I had a lot of support. I think that’s what really helps people,” Ziccardi said.
