Thief takes $91K in jewelry after hiding in store

MONTGOMERYVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Police say a thief made off with $91,000 in jewelry from a suburban Philadelphia Costco after hiding inside until after closing time.

Authorities say surveillance footage shows the man entering the Montgomery County store around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, he then hides inside and waits more than three hours for all the employees to leave before smashing the jewelry cases.

Montgomery Township police say it takes the man just five minutes to gather the loot and make his getaway. He tripped an alarm on the way out but was long gone by the time officers arrived.

Investigators aren’t saying exactly where the man hid but said it was a place employees clearing the store wouldn’t normally look.
