Name: Justin Randall

Instrument: Trumpet

Q. When did you start playing your instrument?

A. I started playing in the fifth grade.

Q. If you could play any other instrument, what would it be and why?

A. I would choose to play Bass, Piano, or Saxophone. The main reason I would choose these instruments is because I am an avid listener of jazz music and mostly all combo and big band jazz groups feature strong players in each of these sections, which drives me to want to play them.

Q. Best memory of being in band/marching band?

A. Up to this point in time, my favorite memory of being in band has got to be the band trip last year to Disney in Florida. My absolute favorite part of this trip was getting to play in front of so many Disney visitors on the Waterside Stage in Down town Disney. It was an absolute blast showing them what the top Jazz band at Boardman had to offer.

Q. What band trips did you attend?

A. In sophomore year I attended the band trip to Washington D.C. and junior year I went on the band trip to Disney, and the Jazz Trip to New York.

Q. Why is music important to you?

A. Music isn’t just important to me; music has become a lifestyle for me. Throughout my years playing my instrument, listening to music, and learning from my directors, these factors have contributed to my love for all things musical. Music has impacted me and made me realize that it is an everyday part of life. With all the technology today, almost everybody will listen to some form of music throughout the course of a day and I want to continue that love for giving individuals the knowledge of music and the music they want to hear.

Q. What college do you hope to attend and what is your intended major?

A. I plan on attending Youngstown State University to either major in Music Education or Jazz Performance.
