Believer’s Church to have gasoline gift-card giveaway

Believers Church on Schenley Avenue Northeast will have a gasoline gift-card giveaway at an undisclosed time and location to replace the gasoline giveaway the church attempted to have Tuesday.

The event was planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Sheetz gas station on Elm Road. The event was canceled, however, after word leaked out in advance and a large number of people showed up, some as early as 9 a.m., according to Pastor Joe Cameneti Sr.

The church set aside $17,000 for the event “to show the love of Jesus to the community through a practical and meaningful gesture of filling up people’s cars with gas,” the pastor said.

Warren police officers were scheduled to arrive at 3 p.m. to make sure the event took place in an orderly fashion, the pastor said.

The giveaway will be handled by randomly distributing $25 gift cards in various, undisclosed locations in the near future. Cards will not be given out at the church, Pastor Cameneti said.
