There are just five days left to vote for AMVETS Post 44 Career Center in its effort to win Home Depot’s Aprons in Action Facebook contest for veterans- focused groups.

As of about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, AMVETS Post 44 led its nearest competitor, Heroes Night Out in Cedar Park, Texas, by only 59 votes: 20,841 to 20,782. The contest ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

At stake are a $25,000 Home Depot gift card in the monthly contest and eligibility to win a $250,000 cash grand prize. AMVETS would use the gift card and cash to improve the Career Center on Elm Street in Struthers.

Memory books on sale

NORTH LIMA

Beaver Township Bicentennial Memory Book is available at the township administration office, 11999 South Ave., and may be purchased from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The memory book covers the township’s history from the 2011 anniversary events back through decades and includes 72 pages of photographs and information on the township, its schools, churches and organizations.

The books cost $10 and also will be sold from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday during the annual Autumn Fest at the Beaver Township Nature Preserve on state Route 165.

Stormwater, rain garden workshop

Youngstown

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. will host a free Stormwater and Rain Garden workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday on Mineral Springs Avenue on the city’s South Side. The seminar will discuss the negative effects of urban stormwater runoff, and will explain rain garden design and construction.
