A local day-care center opened its doors Tuesday night for families looking to tour its new location.
Great Expectations Learning Center had an open house for its facility, specifically designed for toddler-age children.
“We want our current clients to see the new space where their children will be staying,” said Linda Beraduce, owner of Great Expectations Learning Center.
On Monday, the center began looking after toddlers and infants at its new location in First United Methodist Church on Church Street, after its original facility on Hall Avenue became too crowded.
“Our school-age population became too large because of its proximity across from the elementary school,” said Holly Metzinger, Great Expectations administrative director.
She said the facility’s popularity among school-age children caused a problem for its younger clients.
“Our infant, toddler and preschool-age children ran out of room,” she said.
Metzinger said the Hall Avenue location, which housed both school-age and younger children, had 45 children and only one restroom and one toilet for the children.
The Hall Avenue facility remains open for school-age children.
The new center has four rooms for 45 infants and toddlers, and two restrooms.
Kids also have places for napping, playing and learning, said Metzinger.
The independently owned center has 120 children at locations in Austintown, Boardman and Warren, along with its facility in Hubbard.
The facility supervises children from 6 weeks old to 12 years, she said.
“Ever since they could walk, they have been at Great Expectations,” said Starr Campbell of Liberty.
She said her 5-year-old daughter, Kadince, and 1-year-old son, Jayden, both attend Great Expectations.
“All the people are friendly, and the hours and location are convenient for my job,” she said.
