Gov. Kasich to sign 5 bills today shoring up Ohio public pensions
COLUMBUS (AP) — Gov. John Kasich will sign a package of bills later today shoring up Ohio’s five public pension funds.
The Republican governor has scheduled the signing for 3:45 p.m.
The bills make changes to funds covering some 1.8 million retirees, future retirees and their families. They make a variety of adjustments to premiums, benefits, and retirement eligibility requirements for teachers, police, troopers, and other public workers.
The reform package is aimed at keeping the funds solvent. It cleared the state Legislature with bipartisan support.
The affected funds are: Ohio Public Employee Retirement System, State Teachers Retirement System, School Employees Retirement System, Ohio Highway Patrol Retirement System and the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.
