YOUNGSTOWN

Jay P. Gardner, 33, of Maumelle, Ariz., is scheduled to appear this morning in Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of operating a motor vehicle intoxicated and failure to control after police say he struck five motorcycles and a minivan parked in front of the Joker’s Wrath Motorcycle Club on Market Street.

Police said the crash occurred near the club, at the corner of Market Street and Princeton Avenue, at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police were advised that people had been knocked down. A woman had been hit by flying parts coming from the motorcycles, police said.

Witnesses described the white pickup truck that hit the vehicles. A witness helped police locate the truck near the intersection of Midlothian Boulevard and Hillman Avenue. It had significant front-end damage.

Gardner was taken out of the vehicle and transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment of injuries he suffered in the crash.

Police noted the smell of alcohol while interviewing Gardner and said his speech was slurred. Blood was drawn for a blood-alcohol test.
