U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, will be at Barnes & Noble, 381 Boardman-Poland Road, at 5 p.m. Tuesday signing copies of his book, “A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice Can Help Us Reduce Stress, Improve Performance, and Recapture the American Spirit.”

Oktoberfest set in Boardman Park

The 36th annual Boardman Rotary Oktoberfest is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Sunday at Boardman Park.

Admission is $3 for adults and children 12 and older. Free and handicapped parking is available on the west side of the park near the Southern Boulevard entrance. Limited off-site parking is available with a shuttle service from the Heart Center of Northeast Ohio parking lot, south of the park.

The one-day event in Boardman Park will feature arts and crafts vendors, nonprofit organizations and commercial vendors.

Unwanted drugs disposal Saturday

Struthers Police Department will collect unwanted prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

People can dispose of old medicines anonymously and for free. The police department is downstairs in the city building at 6 Elm St.

YFD open house

Youngstown

The Youngstown Fire Department is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Sunday in observance of fire prevention month. The open house will take place at two stations: No. 1, 420 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and No. 2, 125 W. Indianola Ave.

It will include a smoke detector giveaway, firehouse tours, a free raffle, and demonstrations of auto extrication and rope rescue. Refreshments will be served.
