The traditional blessing of animals celebrates the life of St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast day is Oct. 4.

St. Francis is known for his love of all creatures.

Fall revival

Timothy Bancroft and friends will lead music and worship at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. He is worship and music leader at Greenwood Christian Church in Canton.

At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Mark and Debbie Wright Billiter of Pines Christian Church in Mount Gilead will lead the program.

At 6:30 p.m. Monday, Raymond Sanders will preach.

Mark Swinney of Sandia Park, N.M., international speaker, will present a talk on “Eternal Life: Could It Be that God Didn’t Intend Us to Age?” at 3 p.m. Sept. 30 at First Church of Christ, 1515 S. Meridian Road.

A practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing, Swinney has devoted more than 25 years to praying with people and empowering people to pray effectively for themselves.

He has authored more than 250 published articles addressing numerous facets of prayer and healing.

He is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.

Series on CTNY

CTNY, Catholic Television Network of the Diocese of Youngstown, has announced the production and broadcast of a new show to air on ETC-Ecumenical Television Channel.

An eight-part series titled “The Bishop’s Corner” will feature Bishop George V. Murry and the Rev. James Korda, pastoral director of CTNY, as moderator.

Broadcasts will begin Monday and run through April 2013.

They will air the last Monday of the month.

“The Bishop’s Corner” will highlight the New Evangelization called for by Pope Benedict XVI.

Women’s retreat

A retreat for the women of the Northeast Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and friends is planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Saturday at Camp Frederick.

An in-kind offering benefits local food pantries and a regular offering is for the 25th anniversary projects of Women of the ELCA - Katie’s Fund and Malaria Campaign.

Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing, Mich., will speak on the topic “American Church History and The Vatican Council” at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Social Hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel.

The presentation is part of the Diocese of Youngstown’s fourth annual Bishop Benedict C. Franzetta Memorial Lecture Series.

The series, established by Bishop George V. Murry, is designed to further the church’s mission of evangelization.

Labyrinth walk

The Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, will offer a guided labyrinth walk celebrating the “Journey of Learning” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The final guided walk of the season will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Oct. 21 celebrating the “Journey of Autumn” and marking the Feast of St. Ursula, for whom the Ursuline Sisters are named.

The Ursuline Center labyrinth is a ministry of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown and open year-round from dawn to dusk for all people of faith. There is no cost to use the labyrinth, which is handicapped-accessible.
