The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center capped off the first week of school with its annual Back to School Picnic.

With students from 13 districts attending the center and more than 22 programs to choose from, the picnic is the first opportunity for the student body to gather as a whole and unwind after the first week.

The school added programs this year.

MCCTC added a new welding program to its offerings to help train a new work force for in-demand manufacturing and shale-related jobs in the area.

“This year, we’ve added a new welding program, our enrollment is up, and we’ve welcomed eight new staff members to our building, so there are many improvements we’re excited about,” said John Zehentbauer, career technical director.
