Students at Lynn Kirk Elementary School learned some new yo-yo tricks while building character during the school’s assembly Sept.5.

The Ned show, which is a national program designed to encourage younger children to perform well in class and in their lives, used humor and animation children could easily comprehend as a tool to encourage students to respect themselves and others.

“We see 2 million kids a year and we believe there’s a champion in every kid. We teach them that champions set good goals, treat people awesome along the way and accomplish their goals,” said Ned performer Chad.

Students and teachers were fully entertained as Chad showed off his favorite yo-yo techniques, including twirling a yo-yo in mid-air and making some yo-yo toys stay on the ground for long periods of time.

He also made sure students learned the value of setting and achieving goals in life while combining fun with learning. Some students even got the chance to come on stage and tell what their goals were.

“I have them think about what they think makes a champion so they’re telling their peers what they think. It’s pretty powerful to see the message have an impact in the kids,” Chad said.
