Parents and children spent the evening stretching their minds and bodies during “Yoga Family Story Time” at the Austintown library Sept. 10.

“It gets them up and moving. I think it’s a great opportunity for parents to participate and we do different things with kids and their parents. We use more creativity and I think parents like that they can participate along with their children and have fun. It’s also an opportunity for tweens to come and experience the library with their families, too,” said Children’s Librarian Nikki Puhalla.

Children had fun as they extended their bodies during several yoga poses practicing hand-eye coordination and body strength. The event also allowed children and their parents to participate while Puhalla read several stories. Some parents were happy to get their children in the library and having fun.

“We usually try and do anything that the library is offering. Anything at the library gives them time off the electronics,” said parent Nicole Kain.

Families enjoyed themselves as they listened to music, sang songs and there was even a time for everyone to simply relax with breathing exercises.

“I think kids and parents are so busy that we don’t get to get any downtime. I wanted to make it fun for everyone,” said Puhalla.
