Cincinnati park board strikes rule restricting homeless

CINCINNATI

A city park board in Ohio has struck down a rule included in a federal lawsuit that claims park rules were designed to exclude the homeless and poor people and were written behind closed doors.

A Cincinnati deputy city solicitor said there was a misunderstanding about the rule and the board decided it wasn’t needed.

The park board voted Thursday to eliminate Rule 28 and deputy solicitor Aaron Herzig says he hopes that will end the lawsuit filed this month by three city residents.

The residents’ attorney says there are broader issues involved than just Rule 28 and the lawsuit will continue.

The federal lawsuit cites rules that banned people from dropping off food or clothing, and rummaging through trash and recycling bins at the city’s Washington Park.
