Power out for some Girard residents after accident following police chase

GIRARD — Some residents are without power on the city's West Side this afternoon after power lines were knocked down by a man eluding police.

Police said officers were chasing a suspected burglar about 1 p.m., when the suspect's car crashed into a utility pole at Church Hill Hubbard Road and Ward Avenue, knocking down the power lines. The suspect was heading east on Church Hill Hubbard Road when he hit the pole.

Police said the suspect got away, and they are still looking for him.

It was not known how long it would take for power to be restored.
