United Way donors can win Cruze
WARREN
Mahoning Valley residents who donate $200 or more to the United Way of Trumbull County’s 2012 campaign have a chance to win a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze and help their friends and neighbors in need.
The Cruze, donated by Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown, is one of several giving incentives announced Tuesday at Trumbull United Way’s fundraising appeal breakfast at the Packard Park shelter house.
Donors of $200 or more to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley are also eligible to win the Cruze.
Additionally, donors of $120 or more to the Trumbull County United Way qualify for a chance to win a $250 Giant Eagle Get Go Gas Card or a one-year individual YMCA membership (new members only), and automatically become members of the United Way Caring Club, which entitles the donor to year-round discounts at many participating area merchants.
The Trumbull United Way set a nontraditional, nonmonetary goal of helping to solve community problems, not merely raise dollars, said Michael J. O’Brien, 2012 campaign chairman and former Warren mayor and Trumbull County commissioner.
O’Brien, who announced that the Pacesetter Campaign and other pre-campaign gifts totaled $150,551, said the campaign goal includes several nonmonetary objectives, including expanding United Way’s volunteer and contributor base and expanding community-impact initiatives in the broad areas of health, income and education.
“Born Learning,” a new initiative of Trumbull United Way, is designed to help adults interact with children to boost language and literacy development.
The “Born Learning” trail, a series of learning activities, promotes fun and games, important components of early-childhood learning, said event keynote speaker Jennifer Myers, early childhood supervisor at Trumbull County Educational Service Center.
The Trumbull United Way plans to, over time, install permanent “Born Learning” trails in parks and provide portable “Born Learning” trails to area day-care facilities and preschools, said Thomas J. Krysiek, Trumbull United Way president and chief executive officer.
Campaign 2012 promises to be a most-challenging task, made even more difficult as the local economy and work force continues to recover and the demands for human-care needs are at record levels, said John A. Guarnieri, chairman of the Trumbull United Way’s board.
