Tea Party Express to have rally in Canfield
CANFIELD
The Tea Party Express rolls into Canfield at noon today with a rally on the Village Green.
Among the better known of the national tea-party organizations, the Tea Party Express is visiting 22 states in 22 days with today’s stop in Canfield occurring on the ninth day of the tour.
The purpose of the rally is to get out the vote as well as make Democrat Barack Obama “a one-term president and take back the U.S. Senate,” said Amy Kremer, its chairwoman.
The organization, based in Sacramento, Calif., is supporting Republican Mitt Romney for president, and Republican Josh Mandel for U.S. Senate in his race against Sherrod Brown, the incumbent Democrat.
Obama’s “policies are not working and we need to send conservatives to [Washington] D.C., that understand we cannot spend our way out of debt,” Kremer said.
Romney is a better choice to be president because of his business background, Kremer said.
When asked why the organization is having a rally in Mahoning County, a longtime Democratic stronghold, Kremer said, “We are trying to reach out to independents and Democrats who are not happy with the current administration and the direction of this country.”
Jessica Kershaw, an Obama campaign spokeswoman, said Romney “thinks he can rely on the extreme wing of his party to deliver his campaign messages. The fact is, Romney and his supporters can’t offer any ideas on how to move the country forward.”
