Dana orchestra in fall concert

The Dana Chamber Orchestra under the direction of John Wilcox will present a fall concert at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Ford Family Recital Hall, 260 W. Federal St., downtown. Works will include the Overture, Nocturne and Scherzo from Mendelssohn’s “Mid-Summers Night Dream,” followed by Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E Flat Major. Event will focus on battle at Antietam

The battle at Antietam, the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, will be commemorated in a free event from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Memorial Auditorium.

Actors portraying President Lincoln, nurse Clara Barton and General Robert E. Lee will tell their stories. Re-enactors in authentic uniforms with weapons and ladies in Civil War dresses will mingle with the crowd. There will be a series of lectures, plus displays of maps, photographs, uniforms and artifacts from the war, as well as lists of Trumbull County soldiers who fought and lost their lives at Antietam.

Brian Brennan of Youngs-town State University’s medical museum will talk about the instruments and medicines that were used by doctors in the field and about the ambulance service that cared for the wounded. John Caparanis of Cortland will discuss General Jacob D. Cox, a Trumbull County citizen who served in the Union Army. William McKinley, a sergeant at the time, will be recognized for his work in the Quartermaster Corps.

Idorafest returns

YOUNGSTOWN

The second annual Idorafest will be Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. on McFarland Avenue in the Idora neighborhood.

The family-friendly event will include a pig and chicken roast, live entertainment, games and prizes for children and a potluck-style dinner. Participants are asked to bring a covered dish. The event is free to the public. Call the Idora Neighborhood Association at 330-318-5165.
