Man shot in leg during dispute at tavern
Staff report
BROOKFIELD
A 39-year-old Castle Rock Road man was treated in St. Elizabeth Health Center for a gunshot wound to the leg suffered during an argument over a woman outside of Club Topsy early Sunday.
Police were called to the tavern, 8246 Lorain St., at 3:07 a.m. and found Bryan Bacon inside with a barmaid applying pressure to his leg. Bacon was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The man who fired the shot had fled, but Raymond L. Deifenderfer, 32, of Logan Avenue, Sharon, turned himself in at the Brookfield Police Department at 6 a.m. after a Brookfield police detective contacted him.
Deifenderfer was arraigned Monday morning on a felonious assault charge in Eastern District Court. If convicted, he could get up to eight years in prison.
Brookfield Police Chief Dan Faustino said the shooting happened after Bacon and Deifenderfer got into a dispute over comments Bacon made about Deifenderfer’s girlfriend.
The tavern is in the West Hill area of the township.
