Top intellectual to speak at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN

Kwame Anthony Appiah, the Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor of Philosophy at Princeton University, will speak at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.

The lecture, free and open to the public, is part of the Dr. Thomas and Albert Shipka Speaker Series of the YSU Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.

Appiah’s presentation is titled “The Honor Code” and explores the long-neglected engine of reform. Examining moral revolutions in the past — and campaigns against abhorrent practices today — Appiah shows that appeals to reason, morality or religion aren’t enough to usher in reform.

Appiah is one of Foreign Policy’s Top 100 public intellectuals and the author of numerous books.
