As children growing up, we all can remember that sweet, delicious crunch as we took a bite of that fresh-picked apple from the tree out back or the neighbor’s yard. The crimson red beckoned us to taste how sweet the newly picked fruit would be.

Today, with a quick trip to Huffman Fruit Farm, 13075 Lisbon Road just outside of Greenford, you can relive those memories. In fact, at the pick-your-own 50-acre fruit farm, everything that signals fall is ready and waiting — more than nine acres of fresh peppers: reds, greens, banana, hot, cayenne, etc., and, of course, row upon row of red tomatoes.

Maria Pahoulis of Howland explained that she came to the farm with her uncle and dad, and she continues the tradition each year as she unpacks the fresh tomatoes from her curled-up shirt.

The three-generation farm, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, still is run by the Huffman family. It also boasts already-picked fruits and vegetables in the historic, early 1800s roadside barn.
