Royal family sues over topless photos

LONDON

Britain’s royal family says it is suing the French magazine that has published topless photos of Prince William’s wife Kate.

St. James’s Palace said Friday that “legal proceedings for breach of privacy have been commenced today in France” by the royal couple.

The French gossip magazine Closer published the blurry images, which were shot from a distance, Friday but insisted it had not invaded the couple’s privacy. The publication claimed they were taken on a guesthouse terrace in France where the couple vacationed this month.

The images are the first to show Britain’s likely future queen partially nude.

The palace earlier had called the publication of the images a “grotesque” abuse of privacy.

They represent the first significant press challenge for Kate and William, whose mother, Princess Diana, died in a Paris car crash while being chased by photographers. Royal officials, who demanded anonymity in line with palace policy, condemned the decision to publish the images.

“The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so,” said a St. James’s Palace official.

Beer, wine on menu at Magic Kingdom

ORLANDO, Fla.

Beer and wine will be on the menu when the new Be Our Guest restaurant opens later this year in Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

Disney officials told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday that they’ve listened to feedback from guests who’ve said they’d like the option of being served beer or wine with dinner. The restaurant will open in November as part of the Fantasyland expansion.

It’s the first time in the Magic Kingdom’s 41-year history that the park will serve beer and wine.

Sales will be restricted to dinnertime hours. The restaurant is based on Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” and will serve French cuisine.

Disney’s Vice President of Food and Beverage Maribeth Bisienere says it’s all about the dining experience.
