BOARDMAN

Youngstown native Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini will come back to the Mahoning Valley later this month to sign copies of his new biography, “The Good Son: The Life of Ray Boom Boom Mancini.”

The former boxing champion, who now lives in California, will be at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in The Shops at Boardman Park on Sept. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“The Good Son” was written by New York Times best-selling author Mark Kriegel, who will be joining Mancini at the book-signing. Kriegel, a commentator for the NFL Network, has also written “Namath: A Biography” and “Pistol: The Life of Pete Maravich.”

In addition to the book, a documentary film with the same title will get its Youngstown premiere Sept. 28 at Powers Auditorium.

Mancini will be at the screening, as will actor Ed O’Neill, who also is a Youngstown native, and actor Mickey Rourke.

“Youngstown has always welcomed me home with open arms,” Mancini said in a press release. “It is the essence of who I am. I’m thankful for the critical role this support has played in my success.”
