Steelworkers strike at Phillips plant
NILES
The United Steelworkers announced Thursday that 44 members of the Local 4564-02 went on strike against Phillips Manufacturing over contract negotiations.
The strike began Thursday when workers shut down their machines for a scheduled lunch period, walked out of the plant and began picketing on Walnut Street, according to a USW press release.
Disagreements with management concerning seniority protection after injury or illness, health insurance and wages helped spur the strike.
The USW represents 850,000 workers across the country.
