A Mahoning County grand jury indicted a 36-year-old city man on felony charges related to the shooting and attempted murder of his close friend in August.

The grand jury handed up the indictment Thursday against Kenyatta Collins of Plazaview Court. He is charged with aggravated robbery, attempted murder and felonious assault.

Collins likely will be arraigned later this month. He is in the county jail on a $150,000 bond.

Police were called to the North Fruit Street area on the East Side just after 10 p.m. Aug. 14 for a shooting. They arrived to find a 32-year-old man sitting in a Cadillac conscious but bleeding from gunshot wounds to the stomach.

The man had been shot multiple times.

The victim told police he had been shot by Collins, a lifelong friend. The victim told officers Collins invited him to the Himrod Progressive Club for drinks.

He said Collins shot him and robbed him of $250 after leaving the bar and walking to his car in the parking lot.

Collins’ past criminal history includes several driving-under-the- influence of alcohol or drug offenses, felonious assault, drug possession, domestic violence, assault, disorderly conduct, carrying concealed weapons, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.
