Book auction raises money for libraries

Dozens of avid readers flocked to the Poland bookstore to bid on their favorite books during an auction hosted by the Friends of the Library Aug. 22-23.
The proceeds from the two-day silent auction were used to assist with children’s programs for the Mahoning and Youngstown Public library, according to Boardman Library Development Director Deborah Liptak.
“We have books auctioning for up to $1,000. There are books in different categories and there are also magazines,” said Liptak.
Dozens of eager participants bid on books. There were a variety of books and some even dating as far back as the 1800s.
“There are very rare books. We have books that are autographed and a lot of books that are autographed. We also have magazines,” said Liptak.
“This is only our second time we’ve done this and these are some of the special books that we’ve had donated to us. It’s rewarding as a volunteer – it’s a good organization to support,” said Friends of the Library volunteer Jim Meehan.
