Boardman 140s defeated in overtime

The Boardman 140-pound team lost 12-6 in overtime to the Poland Little Bulldogs last weekend.

Che Trevena gave Boardman some momentum with a 25-yard scoring run, but the Spartans couldn’t capitalize. Poland marched 50 yards on its opening series to take the lead 6-0 late in the first quarter.

Boardman intercepted the Poland quarterback three times in the game. The third interception was by Nick Yallech.

This allowed the Spartans to put together a scoring drive capped by a pass from quarterback Travis Harvey to Yallech at the end of the first half to tie the game at 6-6.

Poland started the second half with the ball and drove to the Spartans’ 30, taking seven minutes off the clock.

But despite several costly penalties, the Boardman defense , led by Mike Semond, Desmond Crenshaw, Jackson Straight and Jason Davis, stopped the drive.

The Spartans used a mixture of passes from Devin Whitaker to Kareem Hamden and runs by Trevena and Dylan Gurski to get to the Poland 7. But penalties foiled the scoring drive, which ended with 19 seconds remaining in the game.

Boardman took the ball first in overtime, but was unsuccessful in scoring.

Poland scored on its third play of overtime after an offsides penalty by Boardman started the Bulldog drive at the 5.

Boardman will travel to Hermitage tomorrow to face the Hickory Hornets.

BGMS football falls to AMS

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School football team lost to Austintown Middle School Red 32-0 at Falcon Stadium in Austintown.

Boardman Glenwood is now 0-2 on the season.

Boardman 100s, 120-pounders lose to Poland

The Boardman Little Spartans 100-pound football team lost 14-0 on the road against the Poland Little Bulldogs last weekend.

This loss drops the Little Spartan’s record to 1-3.

In other action, the Little Spartans 120-pound team fell 22-8 to the undefeated Poland Little Bulldogs.

The team’s record is now 2-2.
