AMS Red defeats Niles
The Austintown Middle School eighth-grade Red volleyball team beat Niles 25-10, 26-24 at AMS on Monday.
Girls varsity soccer beats Poland
The Fitch girls soccer team defeated Poland 1-0 on Monday. The goal was scored by Jayme Ritchie assisted by Lauren Bower. Goalkeeper Jessica Scott saved all 12 shots on the goal. Fitch’s record is now 4-2-1 for the season and 2-1-0 in the AAC. The junior varsity team defeated Poland 4-1 on Monday.
Fitch volleyball falls Geneva
Geneva defeated the Austintown girls volleyball team 25-16, 25-15 last Saturday. Fitch’s leading scorer was Taylor Herman with two aces. Leading attacker Cali Mikovich had four kills. Five assists were made by leading setter Sydney Greenwood. Leading defender Alana Callahan had five digs and the leading blocker was Maura Biano with three blocks.
Fitch defeated Akron Garfield
The Fitch varsity volleyball team defeated Akron Garfield 25-5, 25-9. Leading scorers were Taylor Herman and Sarah Melfe with five aces each, while lead attacker Maura Bianco had seven kills. Tiffany Rapovy and Katarina Lewis were the leading setters with four assists. Alana Callahan was the leading defender for Fitch with a total of six digs.
Fitch boys golf won match
The Fitch boys golf team defeated Canfield 155-166 on Sept. 6 at the Deer Creek golf course. Leading the team were Dom Ignazio (36), Matt Matasy (39), Adam Catauro (40) and Cameron Gumble (40).
AMS Red volleyball loses to Struthers
Austintown Middle School Red girls volleyball lost 23-25, 25-23 and 25-21 to Struthers Sept. 6. Top servers for AMS was Natalie Lynn with three aces and a total of 12 points. Keara Katcher had one ace and a total of 15 points, while Maya Martin had an ace and 19 points.
Girls golf beaten by Lakeview
The Fitch girls golf team lost its match against Lakeview 185-106 on Aug. 31 at the Deer Creek golf course. Leading the girls team were Rachel Williamson (40), Jamie Rasor (54), Emily Wyant (56), and Amanda Choma (56).

The Fitch boys golf team beat Warren 160-177 on Sept. 4 at the Deer Creek golf course. Leading the Fitch team were Matt Matasy (39), Adam Catauro (39), Dom Ignazio (40) and Joey Shushok (42).
Boys golf wins match against Niles
The Austintown boys golf team won its match against Niles 161-209 on Sept. 5 at the Deer Creek golf course. Leading scorers for Fitch were Matt Matasy (36), Joey Shushok (40), Adam Catauro (42) and Dom Ignazio (43).
MetroParks to host girls volleyball clinic
Mill Creek MetroParks will be hosting a girls volleyball clinic for ages 11-14 today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., instructed by Walsh University’s all-conference former volleyball player, Natalie Borland. There will be one-on-one instruction on perfect serving, passing, hitting, blocking skills, and more. Bring water and a packed lunch. The fee is $15 for Mahoning County residents and $18 for non-residents. The clinic will be located at the new sand volleyball courts at Wick Recreation Area, 1861 McCollum Road, Youngstown. Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic
Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, is underway. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.
These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.
