Warren council approves new fire truck, computer upgrade, delays new city building

WARREN

As requested by Mayor Doug Franklin, city council approved four ordinances Wednesday that authorized the sale of $10 million in bonds to refinance debt and to purchase equipment.

The debts to be refinanced are $1.7 million for the Ohio Police and Firemen’s Pension Fund and $6.85 million for waterline-construction debt.

Two other ordinances allow the city to sell bonds for $580,000 to buy a new fire department pumper truck and $790,000 for computer hardware and software improvements.

Three other ordinances are being set aside for now that would have involved another $15.6 million in bond sales to raise money to construct a one-stop government services building, improve other buildings and fix roads.

Franklin said he would be revising those proposals in the coming weeks and bringing them back to council.
