POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Sept. 8
Assault: An East Kline Street boy alleged a 19-year-old friend struck him one time during an argument about a game. The 19-year-old left the residence and the situation was defused.
Harassment: A Shannon Road man said his former girlfriend has been making annoying calls and that a man threatened to harm the accuser.
Sept. 9
Criminal mischief: Someone on North Highland Avenue threw what appeared to be a rock and damaged a vehicle’s front windshield. The estimate was $700.
Menacing: A Girard High School coach alleged an assistant coach had threatened to beat him up. The assistant coach said, however, that the remark was taken out of context.
Breaking and entering: Someone took two power tools from a garage in the 200 block of Dearborn Avenue.
Assault: A woman attending a wedding party at the American Legion Post, 11 High St., alleged the bride had struck her several times, including once near the left eye, when the accuser intervened during an argument between the bride and another person.
Criminal damaging: A car in the 200 block of Broadway Avenue was found with a shattered window. Damage came to $300.
Possible attempted breaking and entering: Police searched a wooded area for four males who fled on foot after authorities received information that the four may have tried to enter a South State Street business.
Aggravated menacing: A South Davis Street man reported a neighbor threatened him and was seen walking on the street with a utility knife.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Taylor Avenue woman discovered extensive damage to her Ford Expedition’s passenger side, apparently after the car had been used without permission.
LIBERTY
Sept. 5
Theft/damage: Someone broke a car’s window in the 100 block of Mansell Drive before removing $100.
Sept. 6
Theft: Prescriptions for two medications were missing from a vehicle in the 3400 block of Belmont Avenue.
Criminal damaging: A car in the front yard of a Goldie Road residence had a broken passenger-side window, and a damage estimate of $500.
Identity theft: A Virginia Trail woman reported getting an email that confirmed an online order she had never placed.
Sept. 7
Theft/criminal damaging: A Logangate Road woman discovered the catalytic converter had been removed from her car.
Burglary: To an apartment in the 4000 block of Madison Road through a rear sliding-glass door. Among items taken were a laptop computer and a 46-inch flat-screen TV, for a loss of $4,880.
Drugs: Authorities charged 21-year-old Cody J. Blake, 18 Marla Lane, Girard, with possession of drug-abuse instruments after a traffic stop on state Route 304. Blake, who also was charged with having no operator’s license, had two hypodermic needles, a report showed.
Arrest: Police answered a call about someone trying to pass bad checks at Huntington National Bank, 4700 Belmont Ave., where they took into custody 36-year-old Vernon P. Bauduin, 6033 N. Park Ave., Bristolville, on charges of forgery and receiving stolen property. An investigation revealed that Bauduin, who also was wanted on a charge of failing to appear in court, cashed four stolen checks, including three at the bank, police said.
Sept. 8
Theft: Officers issued a summons to 36-year-old Tia S. Davenport, 2417 Elm St., Youngstown, after $78 worth of children’s clothing was stolen from Citi Trends, 3489 Belmont Ave.
Theft: The front license plate was missing from a car in the 300 block of Goldie Road.
Assault: James W. Hayes, 54, of 47 N. Forest Ave., Youngstown, faced simple-assault and menacing charges after a Fifth Avenue woman alleged Hayes had slammed her to the ground and struck the accuser in her yard. Also, a neighbor who tried to intervene alleged Hayes had threatened him.
Threats: A Youngstown woman leaving a Belmont Avenue restaurant said another woman yelled from a vehicle what the accuser perceived as a threat.
Assault: A nurse at Belmont Pines Hospital, 615 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, received medical treatment for injuries she suffered after alleging a 16-year-old patient had assaulted her during a confrontation regarding a rule pertaining to use of the phone. The victim was found semiconscious and bleeding from the head, a report said.
Theft: A Townsend Avenue woman, who is a man’s power of attorney, told police a relative stole $157 from the family member.
Sept. 9
Arrest: A traffic stop near Logan Way resulted in 32-year-old Cherub Hughes’ arrest. Hughes, of 442 W. Judson St., Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant.
Recovered property: Police found an 18-speed bicycle blocking a portion of roadway near Madison and Logangate roads.
Sept. 10
Theft: A charge was pending against a township woman, 53, after a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.
Dog bite: A 10-year-old girl in the 600 block of Ravine Drive reported a dog had bitten her. She had two small wounds to her lower stomach area.
