Youngstown native will host event

BEREA

The first Torch Run relay race for Church Street Ministries will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Wallace Lake Park.

The event is hosted by the First Church of Berea with all proceeds benefiting the outreach programs and services of Church Street Ministries, a nonprofit organization assisting needy Cuyahoga County residents.

Lydia Esparra, news anchor at WOIO-TV in Cleveland, will be the celebrity host for the event. A Youngs-town native, Esparra is the first Latina news anchor in the history of Cleveland television.

Esparra has written an inspirational book titled “Heaven is All Around You.”

The Torch Run will begin with a reception and book signing with Esparra from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The book will be available for $12.95 with a portion of the sales to benefit the Memby Memorial for Cancer Patients. The foundation was established by Esparra in honor of her late sister to assist cancer patients with expenses.

The Torch Run will conclude with a celebration featuring games, a barbecue and an awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

Those unable to attend can make a donation by contacting event coordinator Rev. Gary Halstead at the First Church of Berea by calling 440-234-2231, or emailing pastorbereaucc@sbcglobal.net.
