‘Living As Form’ exhibition to open at various sites

YOUNGSTOWN
“Living As Form: The Nomadic Version,” a traveling exhibition, will open Friday at the McDonough Museum of Modern Art, 525 Wick Ave., and run through Nov. 9.
The exhibition is part of an international project that explores more than 20 years of cultural works that blur the lines between art and everyday life, emphasizing participation, dialogue and community engagement.
The projects are captured mainly in a series of short films that will be presented at the McDonough and other sites in the Mahoning Valley. The exhibition, which includes 50 works, will begin with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Systems Gallery at the Youngstown Business Incubator, 241 W. Federal St., downtown.
Each host site will organize socially-engaged projects or events that will connect to the exhibit’s theme.
The Youngstown projects include:
Dreaming Youngstown: An Open Library of Possibilities, Systems Gallery. Free public bus tours highlighting ideas from the library will take place Friday, Sept. 29 and Oct. 20. The 90- minute bus tours will leave at 3:30 p.m. from in front of the former State Theater, 213 W. Federal St., downtown. For reservations, go to dreamingyoungstown.com.
MYTOWN: Understanding How Place Matters to Local Youth, a photo project, at the Lemon Grove Cafe, 110 W. Federal St.; and the SMARTS Center, 258 W. Federal St.

Beads for Trees, Fellows Riverside Gardens, a bead- stringing workshop, Thursday (1 to 7 p.m.) and Friday through Sunday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Celebration of Life: Images of Trumbull Traditions Revisited, by Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County at the Wean Foundation.
Community Conscience: A Mural Project at the Juvenile Justice Center of Mahoning County.
There will also be an opening night gallery hop Friday at all of the participating Living As Form exhibition sites: Systems Gallery, 6 to 8 p.m.; The McDonough, 6 to 8 p.m.; Cedar’s Lounge, 8 p.m. to midnight; and SMARTS Center and the Lemon Grove, 6 to 8 p.m.
