Accused Ohio teen school shooter moved to adult jail

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — A judge has ruled that the 17-year-old boy accused of killing three classmates in a February shooting at an Ohio high school be transferred to an adult jail.

Judge David L. Fuhry of Geauga County Common Pleas Court has ruled that because T.J. Lane turns 18 on Sept. 19, he should be moved from a juvenile detention center to the Geauga County jail.

The (Willoughby) News-Herald reports that the judge’s Sept. 7 order said Lane’s transfer to adult jail in the county instead of a juvenile facility farther away will make it easier to get him to court appearances.

Lane is accused of open-firing in the Chardon High School cafeteria Feb. 27. Six students were shot, three of them fatally, before he was captured.
