Warren man charged in 17-year-old’s murder

WARREN

Jamal R. Wright, a 19-year-old city man who has been in trouble with police since he was 11, was arrested Saturday morning and charged with killing 17-year-old Zeboney A. Bess.

He is in the Trumbull County jail awaiting arraignment on charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Bess was shot in the head at 2057 Hamilton Street Southwest at 10:05 p.m. July 14 and died the next day.

Wright’s arrest at 2:04 a.m. at a relative’s house in Warren by the Warren Police Department and U.S. Marshal’s Task Force followed his secret indictment last week by a Trumbull County grand jury.

A witness mentioned Wright’s name the night of the killing, police said, indicating that Wright had been in a relationship with Bess and that she had been “having problems with him.”

Police said Monday Bess knew Wright but they didn’t how close their relationship was.

Wright had been sentenced to a state juvenile detention facility two times — at age 14 and at age 16, and his sentences totaled 3 1/2 years.

The crimes included felonious assault and arson.
