“Community Connection” (7 a.m. Sunday on 21 WFMJ-TV; and 7 p.m. Tuesday on Time Warner Cable community access channel): Ana Bobby and Grimilda Ocasio of the YSU Hispanic Heritage Committee will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss Hispanic Heritage Awareness Month (Sept. 15- Oct. 15) and the various events open to the public.

Next, the Valley Legacy Award recipients have been announced. Lynn Miller from Shepherd of the Valley and Richard Hahn of Keynote Media will discuss the winners and the special recognition they will receive.

Finally, Brenda Cook, a registered nurse, of the HMHP Faith Community Nursing Program, will explain the vision and mission of the program that includes free congregational participation for local churches.

High school bands perform at stadium

BOARDMAN

Boardman Band Night begins at 7 tonight at Boardman Stadium. Participating high school bands include Boardman, Struthers, West Branch, Springfield, Lowellville, Austintown, Canfield and Howland. Admission is $5 ($3 for students; free for seniors).

Stambaugh youth band gets grant

Youngstown

The Stambaugh Auditorium Youth Concert Band has received a $5,000 grant from the PNC Foundation. The youth ensemble involves top high school musicians from Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania. It performs two concerts annually in Stambaugh Auditorium, the first of which will be Dec. 3.

Directors are John Veneskey, Brandt Payne, Tyler Husosky and Eric Bable. Executive director is Thomas Groth.
