Day for dog owners

The American Kennel Club, Elite K9 Training and Shelter Puppies organization are teaming up to host a Responsible Dog Ownership Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the dog park at Mosquito Lake Park.
The event will feature Canine Good Citizen testing from 11 a.m. to noon, obedience games for dogs, microchipping, canine search-and-rescue demonstrations, disaster preparedness training for dogs, and a pet photographer will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Rescue organizations will present dogs and puppies looking for good homes. A dog show during the event will benefit Wags for Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to placing skilled companion animals with disabled children.
All proceeds will go to Shelter Puppies. The organization assists puppies with training, socialization and owner education so that a long and happy relationship will be enjoyed between dog and owner.
North Side roads closed for run

From 7 a.m. to noon on Sunday, the Blue Ribbon Run-Walk for Prostate Cancer Awareness will cause road closures as participants circle Wick Park to Fifth Avenue through Crandall Park. The following streets will be blocked off during the event: Fifth Avenue between Park and Tod Lane; Broadway Avenue between Elm Street and Fifth Avenue; Elm Street between Broadway Avenue and Park Avenue; Park Avenue between Fifth Avenue and Elm Street; Tod Lane between Fifth Avenue and Guadalupe Avenue; Guadalupe Avenue between Redondo Road and Madera Avenue; Goleta Avenue between Tod Lane and Madera Avenue; and Madera Avenue between Goleta Avenue and Guadalupe Avenue.
Boardman police investigate robbery
BOARDMAN
Police are investigating a robbery in the area of Hillman Way and Overhill Road.
Officers were called when a 31-year-old Youngstown man reported he was robbed at gunpoint about 10:40 p.m. Thursday, according to reports.
Police said the man was walking to his girlfriend’s Chester Drive apartment when two men approached him, pointed a gun at him and ordered him to the ground before rummaging through the man’s pockets and taking money, a cellphone and keys.
A police dog tracked a house at Prestwick Drive, but the suspects were not there. The police dog did recover the man’s stolen keys in the grass, reports stated.
‘Preventing the Flu’ is focus of seminar

Ian Coffee, a registered nurse, and Alicia Dunson, a licensed practical nurse, care coordinators from Pleasant View North Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Damascus, will present “Preventing the Flu,” as part of the Damascus Friends Church health ministries from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Canyon Room at Damascus Friends Church, 28857 Walnut St.
Light refreshments will be served after the program.
The free seminar is sponsored by Firestone Healthcare Inc., Pleasant View North Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Senior Independence Home Healthcare and Hospice, Alliance Community Hospital and Salem Community Hospital.
S. Side road closed for block party
Youngstown
Myrtle Avenue between Overland and Glenwood avenues on the South Side will be closed from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday for a community block party.
