Robbery at gunpoint on city’s East Side

Police are looking for a teen boy who went to a Shehy Street home and robbed the occupants at gunpoint.

According to police reports, a 21-year-old Shehy man was home at 7 p.m. Monday when a 17-year-old male he knows only by first name came into his East Side house brandishing a firearm and demanding valuables.

The resident handed over a cellphone, video-game system and $50 before the teen ran out of the house.

The crime was not reported until Wednesday afternoon, however. The gun used in the crime is said to have been stolen from another person who did not report the weapon stolen, police added.

Feed the Children

The Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave., will host Feed the Children preregistration sign-ups from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today and Tuesday.

Applicants must live in Mahoning County, have custody of children in their home under age 18, bring valid picture identification, birth certificates and a bill or piece of mail. Distribution for preregistered families will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. For information, call 330-746-8403.

Adopt an Angel open house is set

North Lima

Adopt an Angel is hosting an open house Sept. 22 to show off its new office at the old South Range Elementary School, 11836 South Ave. The organization, started by Youngstown State University junior Jaime Hughes, collects donations to help families in need and supplies to help care for abandoned animals.

Events planned for Assisted Living Week

In observance of National Assisted Living Week next week, Windsor Estates Assisted Living, 5240 Windsor Way, sponsors an event developed to bring together residents, families, employees, volunteers and the surrounding community to celebrate “Art for the Ages.”

“Art for the Ages” was chosen as this year’s National Assisted Living Week theme because it is about celebrating creativity, appreciating all forms of art, and recognizing how art enhances everyone’s lives.

On Sunday, Windsor Estates will kick off National Assisted Living Week with a Grandparents Day buffet. Close to 60 residents, family members and staff will enjoy a lunch buffet and music by Steve Fazzini.
