Local church to host rally day
The Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 2985 Center Road in Poland, will host a rally day tomorrow. A potluck picnic will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the church pavilion. Hot dogs, tableware, and beverages will be provided. Crafts, games, and make-your-own ice cream sundaes will also be a part of the day. Worship is at 10 a.m. with Pastor Julianne Smith. Entertainers host vocal class
Professional entertainers Rick Blackson and Mary Jo Maluso are hosting a master class on the fundamentals of belt voice singing at Stage Left Academy in Canfield on Sept. 15. Times for classes will be pre-teen from 1-2 p.m., teen and up from 3-4:30 p.m. For more information, call 330-702-1717. 20th anniversary celebration Sept. 22
The Shops at Boardman Park’s 20th anniversary celebration will be Sept. 22 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. The Shops Party Tents will be located behind Quaker Steak and Lube on state Route 224. The evening will include a car/bike cruise at 6 p.m., The Houseband performing at 7:30 p.m., Jeff Kelly from WBBG 106.1 as emcee and Fireworks by BJ Alan at 9:45 p.m.
Poland Relay for Life
On Sept. 22, there will be a craft show and car show at the Negley Volunteer Fire Department, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. All profits from the refreshments will be donated to the Poland Relay for Life.
Tales and talk for 2’s and 3’s
The Poland library will be reading developmentally-appropriate books, singing songs and rhymes, finger plays and offering other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader every Thursday in Sept. at 10:30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

There will be developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 4-5) become a successful reader at the Poland library every Thursday in Sept. at 1 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Kids vote elections 2012
Vote for your favorite storybook character at the Poland library during regular business hours for the month of Sept.. Nominate your favorite storybook character; one nomination per library visit. Top storybook characters from the Sept. nominations will be on the October ballot. There will be three categories: toddler/preschool, grades K-2, and grades 3-6. In Oct. come to the Library to vote. Results will be posted Nov. 7.
Lego my library
Kids, ages 6 and up, can meet at the Poland library on Sept. 25 from 6-7 p.m. to enjoy creating Lego designs. Legos will be provided.
Pajama jam is sleepy-time fun
Put on your PJ’s and bring out the whole family on Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. as the Poland library presents stories and other fun activities.
Monstrous art contest to be hosted
First read the book, then bring it to life in art. “The Monstrumologist” author Rick Yancey will be coming to the main library on Oct. 16 and to coincide with his visit, for the 2012 art contest, you can illustrate your favorite character or scene from any of the Monstrumologist books. Any visual medium is welcome. You can submit your drawing, painting, sketch, photograph, computer-generated art, etc. on paper no larger than 11-by-17, to any library in Mahoning County. Be sure to put your name, telephone number and grade on the back of your artwork. Entries will be judged in two groups (grades 7-9 and grades 10-12) and prizes will be awarded to one winner and one runner-up from each group. Prizes include dinner with the author, a signed copy of “The Monstrumologist” and a monetary award. Contest begans Sept. 1 and entries must be received by no later than Oct. 6. This event is for teens in grades 7-12 who live in or attend school in Mahoning County.
Trim a tree in Sept.
Children of all ages are welcome to decorate an ornament throughout the month of Sept. during regular hours at the Poland library for the all-seasons tree.
Ohio companies going global final program
The final program of this series on taking your company to the international market will highlight the rules, regulations, and compliances for exporters on Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Poland library. Mousa Kassis, adjunct professor of economics at Youngstown State University and International Trade Advisor to the Small Business Development Center housed at Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration, brings his expertise to these important issues.
Make a sky craft
Make art on a string to swing from the sky above the librarian’s desk during regular business hours at the Poland library during the month of Sept. This event is for all school-aged children.

Blood pressure screenings by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will be offered at the Poland library on Sept. 25 from 1-4 p.m.
Libraries to offer Sunday hours
Austintown, Boardman, and Poland libraries will be open from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays starting Sept. 9.
Vendors needed for festival and craft show
Vendor/crafter space is still available for the Shepherd of the Valley–Poland Family Fall Festival and craft show. This year’s event will feature an array of outdoor activities for the whole family, including Friendship Hill horse carriage rides, bounce around, face painting, carnival games, music, concessions, bake sale, auctions, prizes and more.
The festival and craft show will take place on Sept. 22 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley in Poland (301 Western Reserve Road). Interested crafters/vendors can call Shepherd of the Valley-Poland at 330-726-7110, extension 0. Funds raised at this event will support resident activities.
Local doctor offers free health lectures
Dr. Kathleen Padgitt, local kidney specialist, is presenting a series of lectures on healthy living. The next presentation will be on Wednesday with a topic of meat and dairy The program will be held at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center’s Azalea Room. The lecture is free and open to the public. Poland Rotary seeks golfers and sponsors for golf outing
The Poland Rotary will sponsor its annual community golf outing on Sept. 22 at Bedford Trails Golf Course, 713 Bedford Road, Lowellville. The four-person scramble has a 9 a.m. shotgun start and includes breakfast, lunch, 18 holes of golf with a cart, dinner, beverages and more.
The cost to play is $65 per person. The outing will offer door prizes, raffles, putting contest and a $10,000 hole-in-one prize, sponsored by Packer Thomas & Becker Funeral Homes. Hole sponsors for this event are $100 and can be purchased by contacting William Miner 330-503-0902. Reservations are due by Sept. 12. All proceeds from this event benefit local charities.
