The Rotary Club of Canfield sponsored an ice cream social and invited the community to celebrate the 2012 retiring teachers and staff of Canfield local schools on Aug. 20. The event provided the opportunity to say thank-you to the retirees for their years of service.
Retirees included Andrea Armbrecht, Kay Abel, Ann Beebe, Martha Dyer, Jeanne Goodman, Ron Infante, Linda Mazias, Mary Jean Polkovich, Kenneth Reel, Rosemary Rothbauer, Michael Roussos, Patricia Sachire, Roseanne Volpini and Dante Zambrini.

Mike Raulin, of the Rotary Club of Canfield, welcomed guests and introduced Canfield Local Schools Board of Education member Phil Bova. Bova praised the retiring teachers and staff and had some encouraging words and a bit of advice for each of them.
“You have had a big influence on thousands of young people. That’s an awesome thought when you think about it. The Board of Education thanks you. Now is the time to not look back, but to look forward,” Bova said.
Incoming Canfield local schools Superintendent Alex Geordan then took to the microphone.
“I would like to thank you all for your dedicated service to Canfield Local Schools,” Geordan said.
Canfield Mayor, Bill Kay, read a proclamation honoring the retirees on behalf of himself, City Council and the City of Canfield claiming Aug. 20 as a day to recognize educators. Each retiree received a personalized copy of the proclamation as they were called to the gazebo.
The crowd was then invited to enjoy Dairy Queen ice cream handed out by Rotary Club members and Canfield Cardinal Pride marching band parents.
