Fitch High School welcomed a new, but familiar, face into the Falcon family. The school’s new mascot, Freddie, debuted with rave reviews from fans with a fresh new look and attitude Aug. 24.
“It took several months for everything to go through production. The old mascot was so old it had holes in it and was royal blue instead of navy blue. The community really defines Fitch with the falcon so it’s important to have the actual colors and to have a nice-looking falcon and now we finally have that,” said head cheerleading coach Chrissy Farr.
Cheers roared as the new mascot walked around meeting and greeting people in the stands while posing for pictures. The mascot replaced the older version and many were happy to see a more revitalized Freddie.
“I think it looks sharp and it looks more modern. It lends itself to the school spirit. Now the mascot isn’t left in the shadows. It’s nice to have a little refreshment,” said Karen Stephenson.
Cheerleaders, who work closely with the mascot, were thrilled to have a new partner to help them entertain the crowd during games.
“I think it’s going to be a really good year. She’s definitely into it and she’s definitely going to get the crowd pumped. It represents our school and it means a lot to the kids,” said varsity cheerleader Mandi Koch.
The new Freddie was made possible through a donation from Central Park West and the Austintown Plaza. The new falcon can also keep from over-heating with a cool pack vest, which was donated by an anonymous donor.
