City hires firm to study Covelli Centre operations
YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s board of control hired a consulting firm today to do an operational assessment of the Covelli Centre in preparation of possibly leasing or selling the building.
The board voted to hire PA Sports and Entertainment to conduct the assessment over a four- or five-month period. The city is paying the company $10,000 a month up to $50,000 for the examination.
The company will start working as early as next week.
The report will help the city determine if it’s viable for the city to sell or lease the center, Mayor Charles Sammarone said.
The center has never made enough money to cover the debt owed by the city to build it since it opened in 2005.
