Seventh-graders top AMS

On Aug. 29, Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade team improved to 1-1 on the season by defeating Austintown Middle School Red 25-18, 22-25 and 25-17. Leading scorers were Ashley Clark and Riley Zawrotuk. The eighth-grade team fell to AMS Red 25-19 and 25-19. Floor leaders were Taylor Halowell, Emily Hurl and Brittany Mathews.

BGMS splits with Center

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade team lost to Center on Aug. 30, 25-16 and 25-22. Floor leaders were Rachel Hritz and Zoe Sims. The eighth-grade team improved its record to 1-2 on the season by defeating Center 25-11 and 25-18. Leading scorers were Taylor Halowell and Charlotte Voytko.

MetroParks hosts girls volleyball clinic

Mill Creek MetroParks will be hosting a girls volleyball clinic for ages 11-14 on Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., instructed by Walsh University’s all-conference former volleyball player, Natalie Borland. There will be one-on-one instruction on perfect serving, passing, hitting, blocking skills, and more. Bring water and a packed lunch. The fee is $15 for Mahoning County residents and $18 for non-residents. The clinic will be at the new sand volleyball courts at Wick Recreation Area, 1861 McCollum Road, Youngstown. BGMS football falls Warren

Boardman Glenwood lost its season opener to the Warren Raiders at Mollenkopf Stadium on Aug. 21 by a score of 20-6. For the Spartans, Noah Falleti returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown. BGMS is now 0-1 this season. The Spartans are coached by Vince Carnavale and Nick Colla.

BGMS volleyball loses

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School volleyball teams played Poland on Aug. 29. The seventh-grade team lost its first match of the season 25-17, 23-26, 23-25. Leading scorers were Zoe Sims, Rachel Hritz and Brianna Santiago. The eighth-grade team also lost its match 25-9 and 25-11. Floor leaders were Charlotte Voytko and Faith Clear.

Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic

Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, is running. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.

These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.
