Austintown volleyball defeated
The Austintown varsity volleyball team lost to Liberty 25-20, 20-25, 25-17 on Aug. 30 at Austintown Fitch High School. The lead attacker was Maura Bianco with six kills. Lead setter Sydney Greenwood, had seven assists. Lead defender Cali Mikovich had 11 digs and lead blocker Maura Bianco had five blocks.
Fitch golfers lose to Poland
The Fitch boys golf team was defeated by Poland 153-159 on Aug. 30 at the Knoll Run golf course. Leading the team were Matt Matasy (37), Adam Catauro (40), Joey Shushok (41) and Dom Ignazio (41).
MetroParks to host girls volleyball clinic
Mill Creek MetroParks will be hosting a girls volleyball clinic for ages 11-14 on Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., instructed by Walsh University’s all-conference former volleyball player, Natalie Borland. There will be one-on-one instruction on perfect serving, passing, hitting, blocking skills, and more. Bring water and a packed lunch. The fee is $15 for Mahoning County residents and $18 for non-residents. The clinic will be located at the new sand volleyball courts at Wick Recreation Area, 1861 McCollum Road, Youngstown. Varsity volleyball falls to Mooney
The Fitch varsity volleyball team was defeated by Mooney 25-21, 21-25, 25-18 at Austintown Fitch High School on Aug. 28. The leading server was Taylor Herman with two aces. Leading attacker, Maura Bianco, had eight kills and lead setter, Tiffany Rapovy had 10 assists. The leading defender was Alana Callahan with nine digs and the leading blocker was Maura Bianco with a total of four blocks. The junior varsity team defeated Mooney 18-25, 25-16, 25-18.
Fitch girls golf defeated by Hubbard
The Austintown girls golf team was defeated by Hubbard 192-213 on Aug. 29 at the Willow Woods golf course. Leading the team were Rachel Williamson (42), Emily Wyant (55), Jamie Rasor (56) and Kelly Vesey (60).
Girls golf loses to Howland
The Fitch girls golf team lost to Howland at the Avalon South golf course 180-206 on Aug. 16. Leading the Fitch team were Rachel Williamson (43), Jamie Rasor (53), Kelly Vesey (54) and Emily Wyant (56).
Fitch girls soccer defeats Struthers
The Austintown girls soccer team beat Struthers 11-0. Goals were scored by Lauren Bower, Kaelyn Puhalla, Jayme Ritchie, Maddy Miller, Mandi Koch, Justine Phillips and Meghan Shonce. Recording assists were Madison Hefner, Kaelyn Puhalla, Krista Martin, Justine Phillips and Nicole Granger. Fitch had six corner kicks and 27 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Jessica Scott saved one shot.

The Fitch boys golf team defeated Howland 153-165 on Aug. 29 at the Deer Creek golf course. Leading the team were Matt Matasy (35), Joey Shushok (39), Cameron Gumble (39) and Adam Catauro (40).
AMS Red team beats Glenwood
The Austintown Middle School Red eighth-grade volleyball team competed against Glenwood at the Glenwood Middle School. Austintown won in the match in two games — 25-19 and 25-20.
Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic
Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, is underway. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.
These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.
