5 hurt when SUV barrels into store

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Officials say five people were injured when a sport-utility vehicle driven by an elderly woman crashed through the front of a western Pennsylvania store.

Police say the 78-year-old driver got hung up on a curb Thursday afternoon and apparently hit the accelerator when trying to brake when she went through the front of a dollar store in Richland Township, outside Johnstown.

The car traveled about 15 feet into the building, scattering merchandise and customers. Richland Township police Sgt. John Herdman says five people sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe. The driver wasn’t hurt.

Authorities did not immediately release details on the injured.
