Scrappers are shut out in finale, finish 30-45

STATE COLLEGE, PA.
For just the third time in the last seven years, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers endured a losing season.
A 5-0 shutout loss to the State College Spikes ended the franchise’s 14th year of existence.
Mahoning Valley finished fifth in the New York-Penn League’s Pinckney Division.
The Spikes (35-41) hit six doubles with three coming off the bat of Walker Gourley. He drove in one run and scored one.
Jesus Vasquez also had three hits for State College.
Blue-chip Pirates prospect Luis Heredia pitched five innings, allowed just two hits and struck out five.
Luis Morel took the loss for the Scrappers allowing five hits and four runs in five innings.
Dorssys Paulino and Jeremy Lucas each had a pair of hits with a double apiece.
Jorge Martinez had the other hit for Mahoning Valley.
Luis Encarnacion pitched two innings of relief and allowed a run.
Harold Guerrero, making just his fourth appearance for the Scrappers, pitched a perfect eighth inning with three strikeouts.
Guerrero, a Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native, was suspended for 50 games for violating the minor league drug prevention and treatment program.
