Kitten goes for 100-mile ride on NY woman’s bumper

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.

A woman says a 6-week-old kitten hitched a ride on the outside of her vehicle as she drove about 100 miles over upstate New York roads.

Stacey Pulsifer tells the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh that she recently drove from her home in Plattsburgh to Elizabethtown in the Adirondacks, then back to her apartment. Along the way, she stopped for coffee and heard meowing coming from her Jeep.

She asked two friends to help her search the vehicle. They finally found the kitten wedged behind a bumper and had to cut it free.

Pulsifer has since adopted the hitchhiker and named it Pumpkin. She estimates the lucky black cat was lodged in the car for about 22 hours and traveled some 100 miles. She suffered a broken paw during the ride.

Scorpion sting leaves Arizona woman with huge bill

PHOENIX

An Arizona woman is wondering what hurt more: getting stung by a scorpion or seeing her hospital bill after treatment.

Marcie Edmonds says the bill from Chandler Regional Medical Center was more than $83,000. That includes two doses of anti-venom at nearly $40,000 per dose.

The Arizona Republic says Edmonds’ insurer has paid more than $57,000, and the suburban Phoenix hospital is asking Edmonds for the balance of about $25,000.

The 52-year-old Ahwatukee Foothills resident was stung in June while opening a box of air-conditioner filters in her garage.

Edmonds says an emergency-room doctor told her about the Mexican anti-venom Anascorp that could quickly relieve her symptoms, but she was never told about the cost.

Chandler Regional says Edmonds’ bill represents the out-of-network costs for her treatment.

Chairs placed by Eastwood cutout on California trail

GLENDALE, Calif.

These days, wherever you see Clint Eastwood, an empty chair is sure to follow. Even if you’re on a hike.

A life-size cutout of a cowboy Eastwood has stood on a trail overlooking a Southern California freeway for months, but on Tuesday, two chairs were next to him, one also a cardboard cutout, the other an actual wooden chair.

They’re a clear reference to Eastwood’s interaction with an imaginary President Barack Obama in an empty chair at the Republican National Convention last week.

Eastwood and the chair have fueled a social-media meme that’s shown no signs of slowing.

An artist erected the cutouts of Eastwood and other Hollywood Western heroes along the trail in Glendale, but it’s not clear where the chairs came from.
