YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating several weekend shootings, including shots fired at an 84-year-old woman as she sat in a car outside her East Side home.

Police were sent to the Rutledge Avenue area about 4 a.m. Monday for a report of shots fired at an occupied vehicle. When officers arrived at the house, they found the 84-year-old woman at her home with a 20-year-old man.

The woman told police she parked her car in the home’s driveway when she heard several gunshots coming from the street behind her. The 20-year-old man was inside the home sleeping but was awakened by the gunfire and sound of glass breaking.

Police located two bullet holes in the front of the house and five bullet holes in the rear of the woman’s car. Police collected eight shell casings from the front of the house.

Both the woman and the man told police they have no clue who would be shooting at them.

Police are investigating another shooting at an occupied vehicle early Monday that sent one woman to the hospital.

A 24-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were in a car on the South Side at 1:45 a.m. when the shooting took place.

The man went to a home in the 100 block of East Boston Avenue to pick up the woman. They were driving down Southern Boulevard on the east side of the railroad tracks when an unidentified man emerged from between buildings and opened fire on the car.

Police located several bullet holes in the side and rear of the car.

The woman was shot in the hand and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment. Police learned that the man driving the car had an outstanding warrant for aggravated menacing. He was taken to Mahoning County jail.

A 19-year-old South Side man was shot in the arm and taken to ValleyCare Northside Medical Center for treatment.

The man told police he was walking in the area of East Boston and Cottage Grove avenues with friends about 11:25 p.m. Sunday when he noticed a group of men getting out of a truck. He said he heard a single gunshot and realized he had been shot in the elbow.
