POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Aug. 24

Theft: The owner of a Center Road restaurant told police an undisclosed amount of money is being stolen from the business.

Aug. 25

Theft: A cellphone was taken from a vehicle parked in the 2300 block of Stewart Road.

Theft: A set of pliers, several pairs of safety glasses, books and clothing were among items stolen from a car parked in the 2000 block of Bedford Road.

Theft: A man reported a global-positioning-system device, an air compressor, two cellphone chargers and a power-inverter device stolen from three vehicles parked at his New Castle Road residence. The loss was estimated at $877.

Theft: Someone removed $10 from a car parked in the 2400 block of Stewart Road.

Theft: A Stewart Road man reported the theft of $30 from his vehicle.

BOARDMAN

Aug. 31

Theft: A 13-year-old Youngstown boy faced charges of theft and criminal damaging after $148 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. The teen also was accused of using a stolen pair of scissors to cut open packages.

Domestic violence: Two domestic- violence charges were pending against a man after his girlfriend, of Erie Street, alleged the man had thrown her and her daughter out the front door to the home during an argument and choked the accuser.

Auto theft: A 1996 Buick LeSabre was stolen in the 50 block of Lucerne Lane.

Burglary: To a residence in the 7400 block of Salinas Trail, from which two firearms were missing.

Theft: The rear license plate was stolen off a vehicle parked in the 1300 block of Doral Drive.

Criminal damaging: The front door to Super Subers Car Care, 5815 South Ave., was damaged.

Harassment: A Market Street woman told officers her former boyfriend made about 100 unwanted calls to her.

Sept. 1

Drugs: Police picked up 25-year-old Brian J. Precurato at his home, 4022 Bob-o-Link Drive, Boardman. He was wanted on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments.

Menacing: A worker for a Boardman-Poland Road fast-food restaurant reported her former boyfriend made about 20 unwanted calls within one hour, including threats to burn down her residence and kidnap her son.

Theft: Cody R. Kuhs, 18, of 3 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, Pa., along with two New Castle boys, 16 and 17, were charged in the theft of $122 worth of pet food and supplies from Walmart. The 17-year-old also was cited on a marijuana- possession charge.

Domestic violence: Nalita R. Carter, 40, of 695 Cook Ave., Boardman, faced a felony charge after her pregnant daughter alleged Carter had struck her with a fan during an argument related to the accuser’s pregnancy. Carter also admitted having pointed a steak knife at the daughter while threatening to kill her, police said.

Theft: A Ferncliff Avenue man reported $300 stolen from a bedroom.

Breaking and entering: Roughly 200 feet of copper piping valued at $2,000 was stolen from a vacant Cheriwood Court residence.

Theft: A man stole a cigarette lighter from a Shell gas station, 5135 Market St.

Arson/breaking and entering: An Applecrest Court woman discovered someone had entered her garage, stolen her son’s $60 bicycle and burned a lawn chair. The bicycle later was recovered.

Theft: Police charged Stacie M. Franczak, 27, of 381 Coitsville-Hubbard Road, Youngstown, with the theft of $89 worth of clothing from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road. She was released on a summons.

Menacing/criminal damaging: An employee with a Market Street motel told officers a man threatened to harm him after the worker had asked the man to leave because it was past check-out time. The accuser also discovered in the room a shower door that had been broken, liquids spilled on the carpeting and trash strewn throughout.

Sept. 2

Theft: Police charged a 17-year-old Youngstown male with taking an $80 gift card from T.J. Maxx & More, 717 Boardman-Poland Road.

Harassment: A Shelby Road woman reported a vulgar message was left on her answering machine.

Weapon: Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle on Doral Drive, where they charged 28-year-old John S. Brown Jr. of Gerrardstown, W.Va., with carrying a concealed weapon after saying Brown had three folding knives and a large knife in a sheath. He also was cited when, police said, a bag containing 2 grams of suspected marijuana was found.

Counterfeit: A fake $100 bill was passed at Sam’s Club, 6361 South Ave.

Breaking and entering: Someone cut a lock to a chain-link fence before entering D-U Construction, 6235 Southern Blvd., and stealing an 84-square-foot pop-up camper.

Stolen property: Officers responded to an argument at a Market Street movie theater, where they took into custody a 17-year-old Youngstown male wanted on a pickup order from the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown. He was accused of failing to appear in court on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Market Street resulted in 38-year-old Charles D. Kaczmark’s arrest. Kaczmark, of 419 N. Cedar Ave., Niles, was accused of failing to appear in court.

Drug possession: Police cited Emanuel N. Catsoules, 24, of 3900 Mercedes Place, Canfield, after having pulled him over on Mathews Road. Catsoules had a sandwich bag containing suspected marijuana, a report said.

Criminal mischief: A Clifton Drive woman alleged a neighbor intentionally cut three of her cable lines.

Weapons: A traffic stop on state Route 7 resulted in misdemeanor charges of carrying concealed weapons against 21-year-old Benjamin M. Jones, 452 Smalls Ferry Road, New Castle, Pa., when, police said, he had a loaded pistol and a pocketknife. Jones had a concealed-carry permit issued in Pennsylvania, though it was not valid in Ohio, a report showed.

Sept. 3

Weapon: While dealing with a fight near Boardman-Poland Road, authorities arrested 26-year-old Michael D. Jagel, 93 Meadowbrook Ave., Boardman, on a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon when, they said, Jagel had a set of brass knuckles.

Theft: A wallet, medications and credit cards were among property removed from a car parked in the 6800 block of Tippecanoe Road.

Theft: Two women reported their purses missing while at a South Avenue banquet hall.

Theft: A Bay Village, Ohio, woman reported her purse stolen at Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft/criminal damaging: A car near U.S. Route 224 was found with a damaged dashboard after someone had stolen two 12-inch speakers and an amplifier.

Vandalism: A sharp object was used to damage a vehicle’s exterior in the 6700 block of Bristlewood Drive. The estimate was $750.

Possible burglary: A man in the 300 block of Melrose Avenue reported having seen a male in a ball cap fleeing through his yard after saying he felt the man had been in the accuser’s residence.

Theft: Police charged Sheryl A. Gallite, 47, and Gary J. Gallite, 56, both of 28 Grandview Ave., Struthers, with stealing batteries, vitamins and other small items from Walmart. Both were released on summonses.

Misuse of a credit card: A Canfield woman learned someone without authorization used her debit card after she apparently had misplaced it at a South Avenue gas station.

Theft: Police charged Amanda A. Johnson, 20, of 839 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, with stealing $49.60 worth of makeup from Walmart.
